The Board will charge $191.16 for each annual statement of accounts by an administrator at the time that the statement is approved by the Board. This is to cover the costs of reconciliation of the statements, verification and approval by the Compliance Officer and a Board member. If the estate that you administer has less than $50,000.00 (excluding the represented person's personal effects and their place of residence or a residence at which their children reside), no fee needs to be paid.
The fee is payable from the estate of the represented person. It is not payable personally by the Administrator.
Once your statement has been assessed, the Compliance Officer will send you an invoice which is payable at any Service Tasmania branch. The statement of accounts will not be approved until payment has been received.
The fees are means tested and a represented person with an estate with less than $50,000.00 (excluding the represented person's principal residence and their personal effects) in value will not be required to pay a fee.
If the estate has greater than $50,000.00 (excluding the represented person's principal residence and their personal effects) but there are special reasons why the person cannot afford to pay $191.16, you can ask the Board to waive any of the fees charged by demonstrating hardship.
Service Tasmania staff will assist you to complete the request for hardship consideration.
The fees were calculated after a study of the actual cost of the work done for each of these functions. Additionally, the Department of Justice compared those fees to comparable fees charged interstate. In setting these fees, we are satisfied that the fees are fair, that they accurately reflect the cost of work done with respect to these functions and are attuned to interstate comparators.
Fees generated by the Board will be applied directly back to fund the functions of the Board.
Clients of the Public Trustee will be charged a lesser rate for the examination of administrator's statements of accounts. The regular fee is $191.16 but clients of the Public Trustee will only pay $135.27. This is in recognition that these clients pay for the professional services of the Public Trustee to audit and monitor accounts and therefore the work of the Board with respect to these accounts is less onerous than it is with private administrators.
