Are there any limitations on the authority of the person responsible to consent to treatment?

Yes, there are limits on the authority of the person responsibile.

The person responsible cannot consent to medical or dental treatment that is classified as 'special' treatment.

In these cases only the Guardianship and Administration Board can consent to treatment.

If there is a serious dispute (for instance about capcaity to consent) between the patient/practitioner/person responsible then the matter should also be referred to the Board.
